My Time in the CCAFS Society

I was fortunate to be elected onto the committee of the NUIG CCAFS Society. In that time many important things happened for the society which culminated in us winning best Civic and Social Society of 2016/2017.

The CCAFS society became part of the Fossil free initiative. A bout of pressure politics to force the the university to divest its savings of €3.4 million from fossil fuels. Luckily our forward looking university embraced the idea, acting as an example for all learning institutes around the world. This was lucky in that it occurred right before the Irish Parliament itself passed a similar motion for the Irish State.

On the back of this the CCAFS Society won NUIG’s best Civic and Social Society, then it won the all Ireland. We were very lucky but it reflected a year of hard work on the part of all our members. Below is a photo of us accepting the reward!
