“Rice to the Climate Change Challenge”

I wish I thought of that pun myself! Rice and shine will have to suffice.

Anyway this here is an insightful video into rice and climate change. Dr Bjoern Ole Sander, the head scientist here in IRRI and representative of IRRI Vietnam, discusses three key questions on rice and climate change at COP24 in Katowice last December (2018):

  1. What is the status of rice in the midst of climate change?
  2. How does rice research address climate change challenges?
  3. What are the future steps in IRRI’s research on climate change mitigation?

In a nutshell my research fits into his point on the reduction of methane emissions, specifically by alternate wetting-and-drying! Though it is exciting to think about the novel research into developing rice cultivars that produce less methane!
