Climate services

Climate change has been observed in the country and it is mainly in form of droughts or floods. In order to address the challenges brought about by climate change government in partnership with the private sector have been providing Climate Information and Weather Index insurance services. Government through the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) under the Ministry of Agriculture has insuring 1millions against weather related risks.

Mitigation strategies

In order to reduce the sector’s contribution to the greenhouse gas emissions the government has invested in about 2,000 solar milling plants that are aimed at de-carbonizing the food processing activities. These solar milling plants are scattered throughout the country and are run by the co-operative societies.
