Just a Few More Days Before the Deadline for My Thesis Approaches

The focus of my thesis is climate, conflict and deforestation and examining and unpacking the completed relationship and evaluating if climate drives deforestation and thus conflict.

A key topic of discussion in the relationship between climate, conflict and deforestation is the REDD+ programme.

The long-term viability of REDD+ depends on altering business-as-usual activity in sectors currently driving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from forests. The key to determining the drivers of deforestation requires a synthesis report that investigates activities (drivers) that lead to deforestation and forest degradation. Exploring the relevance of drivers in REDD+ policy development and implementation, key interventions to address driver activity, the role of drivers for national forest monitoring and for developing REDD+ forest reference (emission) levels. With the need for more support in going forward for the on-going international climate negotiations, as well as country-level plans and interventions to affect drivers of deforestation and forest degradation.

Key resources I came acrosss that has helped me in writing up my thesis ‘Driver of deforestation and degradation; A Synthesis Report for REDD+ Policymakers by Gabrielle Kissinger, Martin Herold, Veronique De Sy’.
