  • HOSPITAL INPATIENT CARE: EXPENDITURES WERE ESTIMATED BY MULTIPLYING THE NUMBER OF DAYS OF HOSPITALIZATION BY ADJUSTED EXPENSES PER INPATIENT DAY SPENT IN HOSPITAL.

THERE IS ON AVERAGE OF 20,000 HOSPITALIZATION      ANNUALLY FOR ASTHMA IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT. THE LENGTH OF STAY AVERAGED (3.13) DAYS. HOSPITAL EXPENDITURES WERE ESTIMATED AT (4.5) MILLION EURO

HOSPITAL OUT PATIENT CARE

  • TOTAL EXPENDITURES FOR OPD VISITS TO THE HOSPITALS WERE ESTIMATED BY MULTIPLYING THE NUMBER OF OPD VISITS FOR ASTHMA BY THE AVERAGE CHARGE FOR SUCH A VISIT.THERE WERE ESTIMATED (19,000) HOSPITAL OPD VISISTS FOR THE TREATMENT OF ASTHMA. THE AVERAGE CHARGE FOR A VISIT TO OPD OR EMERGENCY IS 100 EURO. THE EXPENDITURES FR THESE VISITS TOTALLED TO (1.9) MILLION EURO.

    GP VISITS

  • TOTAL EXPENDITURES FOR CARE PROVIDED IN GP CLINIC WAS CALCULATED BY THE NUMBER OF VISTS FOR ASTHMA MULTIPLIED BY THE MEAN FEE FOR A GP CLINIC VISIT.EXPENDITURES SERVICES FORO GP WERE ESTIMATED BY THE NUMBER OF ANNUAL VISITS MULTIPLYING BY THE MEAN FEE OF GP WHICH IS 50 EURO A VISIT. THERE WERE AN ESTIMATED OF 50,000 GP VISITS IN YEAR. THE EXPENDITURES OF THESE VISITS TOTALLED TO (2.5) MILLION EURO.

    INDIRECT COST

    • LOSS OF SCHOOL DAYS: THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL DAYS LOST WAS USED TO REPRESENT THE NUMBER OF DAYS LOST FROM WORK FOR WOMEN WITH EARNING OR FROM HOUSEKEEPING FOR ALL OTHER MOTHERS.

    THE DATA DO NOT PROVIDE THE SEX OF THE PEIMARY CARETAKERS OF CHILDREN WITH ASTHMA. THEREFORE THE CARETAKERS WERE ASSUMED TO BE MOTHERS. ASTHMA ACCOUNTED FOR A LOSS OF MORE THAN 136,3000) SCHOOL DAYS.

THE CASE OF OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT THE NUMBER OF ASTHMA RELATED YEARS OF WORK LOST TIME THE AVERAGE ANNUAL EARNINGS. AN ESTIMATED OF (194.6) MILLION EURO LOSS IN WORK.

    MORTALITY LOSS

  • THE TIME LOST OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSEKEEPING AS A RESULT OF PREMATURE DEATH WAS CALCULATED FROM THE TIME OF DEATH PREDICTED ON THE BASIS OF THE PERSON LIFE EXPECTANCY. MORTALITY COSTS WER CALCULATED BY MULTIPLYING THE NUMBER OF DEATHS BY THE AGE- AND SEX SPECIFIC CURRENT VALUES OF ESTIMATED FUTURE LIFE TIME EARNINGS.MORTALITY COST WERE CALCULATED BY MULTIPLYING THE NUMBER OF DEATHS BY THE AGE-SEX-SPECIFIC CURRENT VALUES OF ESTIMATED FUTURE LIFETIME EARNINGS. THE COST DUE TO MORTALITY IS (262.01) MILLION EURO.
