The impact of climate change on forage grasses in Ethiopian livestock systems.
Institution: National University of Ireland, Galway
Host Institution: International Livestock Research Institute, Feed and Forage programme, Ethiopia.
Objectives
- To determine the current use and hectares planted compared with the potential area based on current climate and dairy systems.
- To determine the trade-offs by modelling profitability of growing grasses for feed compared with crops.
- To Model the effects of climate change on the potential area grown and profitability.
- To Estimate the potential impact of identifying more drought tolerant lines of forage grasses as an adaptation to climate change.
