Native Woodland Trust to Expand to Galway

Earlier this week on Twitter, the Native Woodland Trust announced that they will be establishing a Galway branch (pun intended?) soon. This is exciting news as the Lough Atalia Rewilding Project has recently started, the biggest such project in over two decades, and there will surely be many opportunities with Galway National Park City to bring more native trees to Galway.

The Native Woodland Trust is an NGO dedicated to the preservation and expansion of Ireland’s Ancient and Established Woodlands, as well as the establishment of new woodlands using only native stands. NWT currently oversees eleven different sites within Ireland, where they remove invasive species and protect forests from grazing damage, using landscape management solutions.

The Native Woodland Trust has also put out a wonderful limited podcast series covering numerous topics related to Irish woodlands, from the importance of native stands, the history of trees, key indicator species of old growth forests, and more. Hopefully soon there will be some announcements of upcoming projects based in Galway!
