Malawi's deforestation rate is ranked No. 1 among Southern African Development Community, and 4th in the world. This is of great concern given Malawi's challenges with sol fertility and food security. The Malawian Government is said to be taking its adaptation and mitigation of the impacts of climate change seriously, viewing agriculture and natural resources as the key to poverty reduction. However, these rankings suggest further robust action is required.
