Rwanda: Why Africa Should Champion the Crusade On Green Economy
This article highlights Paul Kagame's message at the World Economic Forum annual Summit in Davos. "nations should not choose between the environment and prosperity". There is an urgent need to change the way that society manages the interaction of the environmental and economic domains for a sustainable future.
But how can this be done in a way that reduces environmental risks and keeps the economy green, how can growth be promoted without degrading the natural resource base and with respect for the principles of low-carbon economy.
The author discusses how Rwanda has set about achieving a green economy, and how the private sector, and academic institutions all have a key role to play in achieving a green economy that results, not just fewer environmental risks, but in improved human well-being and social equity.
