As by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) trends in agricultural sector report 2017, the country’s cattle is 80% beef, where 41% is owned by small-scale and the communal sector. Top beef supply is from the Eastern Cape, Kwa-Zulu, Free State and North West provinces, where herds vary from less than 20 to 4000 especially in feedlots (producing 75% beef in the country).
