The Growth of Vietnam’s Coffee Industry

”The International Coffee Organization forecasts worldwide coffee consumption in 2025 will be around 20% higher than the roughly 150 million bags estimated for 2015.”

In Vietnam’s central highlands, Nestle are working with farmers to help improve the quality and yields of Robusta coffee production. Over 300 local farmers took part in training to become instructors by the company that taught around 21,000 coffee growers more efficient agricultural techniques. This education programme has aided 3,500 farmers, boosting yields by 10% in addition to a 10% reduction in pesticide use. As a result, this benefited their levels of income per hectare; which saw a 14% increase to $6,621 in 2015.
