My name is Qing Lan(蓝青). Indeed, I am the first Chinese guy in the major of Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). I graduated from China Agricultural University and got my bachelor degree in agricultural engineering in 2016. After one year’s work on agriculture (grape cultivation), I found no interests in doing this job any longer and decided to try something new and to go somewhere new. Then I came here to be an MSc CCAFS postgraduate student.

I’ve never thought about doing something globally because China is so big and I couldn’t spare any time considering what is happening in some other countries or regions. Besides, the government doesn’t allow Chinese people to do so (all the international social software are banned in China including Google and WordPress even. ) Being an international student here provides me with a new perspective of viewing things and allows me to evaluate a certain activity or practice from a global angle.

I’m very glad that my supervisors offered me a chance to go back to China to finish my final project. And I really appreciated that the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center (FFRC) of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) is willing to take me as an exchange student to study there. Helping the motherland to establish the country and make it better could be most people’s dream and so am I. Even though I don’t really know that if what I’m doing is able to make any sense, my purpose was anyway.

My final project is based on the aquaculture development state in China. It is basically about to help China’s aquaculture industry develop in a more sustainable way. China has been dominating the world aquaculture output for decades, but it has been blamed by some others for its overusing the world fishery resources. I’m not here to stand for my own country, but I still have to say that it can never be counted as ‘overusing’ considering China’s great population and its share of global capture fishery production. However, I’m still happy to do this job, not because of the nonsensical accusations, but just because I want to make it better.
