Countdown

Countdown

Hello there,

In two weeks time, I will submit my thesis. Two weeks to finish to write the thesis. I was seeing the 17th of August really far away and the countdown started!

Next week, on Friday, I am going to meet Ecohabitats Foundation, the community leaders and the Coffee Association in Popayán. I will present to them the results of the survey that I have been working for the last 2 months while a discussion will happen. Their voice is very important in all this process as the project that I am working with is to help them to have a tool to scale-up.

One curious thing from the results is that before visiting a few sites of the CSV on my trip to Cauca CSV (you can read my experience here) I was thinking that the people living there would be food insecure. For my surprise, when I was there I realised that what my eyes were seeing and what I had in mind after reading many papers about climate-smart villages was not the same. The results talk by themselves, 89.4% of the survey participants are food secure. As you can see in the following graph, it shows the different sites in Cauca CSV that were surveyed and all of the food security values are greater than 70%. The graphs were made with the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) questionnaire.

Food security in Cauca CSV

Another curious thing that I never thought (I have to say first that is my first time being so close to the equator), and I have been really confused for the last week is to see all the trees flowering at this time of the year. In my mind, I think that is spring, but then I realise that we are already in August! The picture above was taken a few minutes ago at CIAT.

See you soon,
