A Common Food Policy for the EU

The International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food) are working to reform the food systems in the EU. They contend that a transformation of the current Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) towards a ‘Common Food Policy’ is necessary. Widening the focus from agriculture to food policy has the potential to benefit the environment, public health, and rural development.

In April, IPES-Food members joined forces with top European scientists to call for joined-up food policies to be put in place, and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to be fundamentally re-examined, in an open letter to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

IPES-Food is currently in the process of developing a vision of a ‘Common Food Policy‘ for Europe.
