This is the surface area of vegetation ravaged by the fires that hit the Var department (France) from 16 to 25 August. This is the worst fire to hit France since 2003.

Record of the week:
July 2021 was the hottest month on record on Earth, according to the US climate agency NOAA. The temperature was 0.93°C above the global average temperature for July in the 20th century.

Bad news of the week:
Deforestation in the Brazilian part of the Amazon rainforest has reached its highest level of deforestation for 10 years. Between August 2020 and July 2021, the equivalent of 13 times the city of New York was razed, according to Brazilian NGO Imazon.
