The protein source at our disposal: Lesson learnt

Nutrition awareness is one of the keys in scaling legume utilization, although market opportunities can scale the sustainable production of legume varieties and increase its consumption. Research work has provided consumers with improved legume varieties that are resistant to diseases and pests and other harsh environmental conditions. Also, biofortified legumes provide consumers with nutrients that are essential for health and useful in combating malnutrition challenges. It is time to develop and make use of agriculture and marketing policies and strategies to enable the supply of legumes in SSA and all over the world. This will improve the livelihoods and nutrition status of our communities. Not only that but also, this will open trade opportunities within SSA and outside the continent. Extended gratitude to research teams all over the world for their day-to-day work on exploring more about legumes. I am happy to be part of the team and get to learn about legumes and their benefits to human health and the environment. Happy to be a “LEGUME Researcher”. Let’s do it now, let’s do this together.
