The very same day I arrived was the day I got to meet with my supervisor for information on my project. It was the first chance i had to get the details of it. My project is to be on Alternate Wetting and Drying in rice, with an aim to reduce emissions, and increase nutrient and water use efficiencies.
Growing more or less is the golden goose in todays push for sustainability, it is something that everyone can agree on as a mark of human progress.
From both an environmental and economical perspective, this is desirable. And what else is the purpose of science if not to discover the optimal?
The current practice of flooding rice fields with water is what causes the high methane emissions from them, i hop my small project can contribute to the data bank which will eventually see a change in practice, globally, towards the optimal.
