brief description
ECOSYSTEM
Methane and nitrous oxide are the main sources.
Carbon dioxide is not the dominant GHG produced by China’s agricultural system. Methane and nitrous oxide are the main sources of GHG emissions from agricultural production, with emissions of 467 and 363 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, respectively, in 2014. According to China’s biennial report released in 2018, a total of 830 million tons of CO2-equivalent were emitted from agriculture-related production activities in 2014, with methane emissions from agriculture accounting for about 40%.

According to the Report on China’s Policies and Actions to Address Climate Change prepared by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment 2022, climate change is a challenge for all mankind, and China is making continuous efforts to reduce its emissions. China has proposed a new national emissions reduction target of “striving to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and striving to achieve emissions reductions by 2030”.
