I will be exploring previously done peer-reviewed work on the impacts of climate change on livestock generally, which will narrow down to focus on the challenges experienced by farmers in the South African\u00a0livestock (Beef and\/ Dairy) production systems. although it\u00a0should\u00a0be kept\u00a0in mind\u00a0that\u00a0livestock also\u00a0has an impact\u00a0on climate change through\u00a0the emission\u00a0of greenhouse\u00a0gases\u00a0such\u00a0as\u00a0methane\u00a0from livestock. where\u00a0emissions\u00a0output\u00a0differs\u00a0per\u00a0livestock\u00a0system\u00a0practised\u00a0(lesser for\u00a0highly intensive\u00a0systems).<\/p>\n<p>There are three livestock\u00a0production systems;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Extensive (pasture grazing)<\/li>\n<li>Mixed<\/li>\n<li>and, Intensive ( livestock is fed high energy crops).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>wherein the developing countries the commonly\u00a0practised\u00a0is extensive and mixed and will be the most affected by climate change, intensive is only used by farmers with a stable market and less affected since livestock environment can be controlled. for example in highly industrialized dairy farms, there are cooling systems such as water cooling sprays to avoid heat stress on livestock that would result in negative milk production. therefore suitable response systems suitable for all farming systems to adapt and mitigate are critical for food security maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The beginning!
