On the 27/08/21 I submitted my thesis review paper on waste valorisation, using anaerobic digestion to close loops in sustainable agri-food systems. The biogas sector has huge potential moving forward to reduce waste volumes and produce renewable energy.
I really enjoyed examining the literature and discovering the extent to which anaerobic digestion is used globally and the development that is already underway with biomethane expansion. Anaerobic digestion facilitates a range of substrates and can be run at a range of scales also from household scale to industrial scale. The product of biogas is also versatile.
There is a huge future for AD and biogas which I am excited to see. I will be following Irelands progression with injection of biomethane into the national gas grid and the work of green generation.
