The Island of Ireland

Ireland is in a unique position to harness the benefits of anaerobic digestion. With our large agricultural community and optimal grass growing conditions, plenty of feedstock can be made available for anaerobic digestion.

This week I came across an insightful episode of Irish show “Ecoeye” presented by Duncan Stewart. This episode looked at the potential for AD in Ireland and what it could mean for Irish farmers. The episode also looked at the great work by Green Generation and Gas Networks Ireland to produce energy from AD products.

Ireland has continued to miss emissions targets. AD can help produce renewable biogas with potential to fuel HGV and buses nationwide. The conversion of all buses and trucks in Ireland to biogas could save €524m annually on diesel costs as well as 165KT of CO2.
