Metering Device

After the meetings two weeks ago, I received a CAD file for a metering device designed by Agricomponents. After some adjustments the first version was ready for printing. The print was estimated to take 20 hours in build time but surprisingly it printed in 18 hours. This was an overnight job so I had to keep a close eye on proceedings which resulted in late night visits to the post harvest lab! (dedication!!!).

The metering device weighed in at 162.4g, very light and efficient use of filament. Weighing the part will also help with the Life Cycle Analysis I’m hoping to do. However, I played around with the settings and had infill capacity at 30%. This means the part itself had low strength qualities. The second version which will take 40 hours to print will have infill capacity set at 60% and the final version will be 90/100% infill and a lengthy build time of 60+ hours. This will allow for fair testing and assess the abilities of different strengths. Once the 3 parts are printed they will be sent to Agricomponents for testing. Busy days ahead and fingers crossed the 3D printer keeps going!
