Research Project and the COVID-19 Pandemic

Originally, I was suppose to carry out my research project for my MScCCAFS thesis at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has brought this plan to a halt and I will now be carrying out my research remotely here in Ireland. While I would have loved the opportunity to go abroad and get some first hand experience out in the field, I am still delighted to be able to conduct my research in collaboration with a fantastic company such as the IRRI, who’s aim is to abolish poverty and hunger among people and populations that depend on rice based agri-food systems.

There is no doubting that carrying out my research remotely is going to be tough and nothing beats the first hand experience you get from working out in the field, however, with the help of my supervisors in NUI Galway and the IRRI I will hopefully be able to produce a piece of work that I can be proud of.
