This week we had 3 different meetings, the first was a meeting at the irish ambassadors residence, a kind of meet and greet and the first proper networking event i had been to in a while. At first i wasnt sure what to make of it, or how i should be behaving, but i quickly became comfortable with mingling with people and learning that the conversation could be pretty casual. This chit chat was interrupted by the ambassador clanging her spoon off her glass, a toast was called. During the short and delightfully witty speech, we were invited, and encouraged, to partake in the buffet spread at the far side of the room, not wanting to be a rude guest, I of course obliged.
No regrets. The food was fantastic, a spread of sushi, steak, chicken supreme, mixed vegetables, and of course, this being vietnam – rice. I still dream of it.
After sampling the spread it was time for more mingling, where i met some interesting people and discovered that people at these things are very friendly and not always in the high and intimidating positions initially expected.
