I have been reading around my chosen paper topic of Sustainability reporting and came across a highly relevant article titled ” Management for Sustainability ” by Dror Etzion , published in Nature Sustainability / vol1 Dec 2018 / 744-749

The key takeaways I got from the article that are still relevant 7 years later

  1. Organizations should be recognized as key vehicles for meaningful changes where varied and meaningful actions towards greater sustainability can originate.
  2. If organizations don’t understand a problem and the role they play in it , how can they held solve it ?
  3. Historically organizations operate at different time scales than sustainability challenges , Business operations views tend to be shorter term and involving tractable goals. .
  4. Organizations tend to be effective in domains where they have knowledge and control as opposed to sustainability issues that are not neatly bounded.
  5. The choice of explanation ( around climate change ) determines the nature of the problem’s resolution.
