Songs of Travel and Music for Galway

Cellissimo Classical Music Festival

Cellissimo is a small – medium scale indoor international classical music festival led by Music for Galway, and lead partner of Songs of Travel, our partner collaborator on this study. It had its first concert event in 2021, and it will run again next year in multiple venues in Co. Galway and city between 18 May 2024 – 25 May 2024. Since Cellissimo is a relatively new small-scale festival, having only been in existence since 2021, the festival organizers have made it their mission to develop policies which will enable or lead to festival sustainability.

In order to achieve this they have started the Creative Europe Collaboration Project, Songs of Travel (SOT) of which they are lead partners. As part of this they are working in collaboration with us as researchers in the University of Galway and with Jakob Koranyi, world renowned cello musician and Lead on the environmental aspect of this project. The aim of our research study is to develop the toolkit and ultimately provide the festival organisers of Cellissmo with the measures to be implemented in order to reduce festival emissions, thus achieving festival sustainability.
